'80's Corvette
The '80's Corvette, designed by Larry Wood, is modeled on the planned-but-never-produced 1983 Chevrolet Corvette; GM built 43 prototype and pre-production units before deciding to sell the delayed cars as early 1984 models instead, with only one surviving 1983 example preserved today at the National Corvette Museum. The Hot Wheels casting features a functioning opening hood, a two-tone interior, and a painted-roof windshield piece, and notably lacks door mirrors, distinguishing it from the visually similar Corvette Coupe casting sourced from Corgi. It was later modified with a fixed hood in 1990 and eventually spawned the retooled '84 Corvette in 2022.
