'80s Corvette

Designed by Larry Wood, the '80s Corvette casting entered Hot Wheels in 1983 depicting GM's then-unreleased redesign of the C4 Corvette rather than the production car that eventually reached showrooms. Early runs featured a hinged hood that opened over a two-tone interior, a detail dropped in 1990 when the tooling was altered to cast the hood shut. The casting stayed in circulation for decades afterward and eventually formed the basis for the 2022 '84 Corvette retool by Lindsey Lee. This particular release came in the 1997 Race Team Series III lineup.
