Avus Quattro

The Avus Quattro casting, designed by Bruce Baur, replicates the real Audi Avus quattro concept car penned by J Mays and Martin Smith and unveiled at the 1991 Tokyo Motor Show. Its polished aluminum body and aluminum space-frame construction were meant to evoke Auto Union's pre-war 'Silver Arrows' racers, and while the concept was billed as housing a 6.0-liter W12, the engine on the actual show car was only a wooden mock-up since the real unit was still in development. This 1996 mainline release (toy #13868) comes from the casting's 1993-2001 production run; the real Avus quattro remains on display at Audi's museum in Ingolstadt.
