Avus Quattro
Designed by Bruce Baur, this casting is based on the Audi Avus quattro, a one-off concept car styled by J Mays and Martin Smith and unveiled at the 1991 Tokyo Motor Show to showcase Audi's aluminum space-frame construction, its polished aluminum bodywork paying homage to the Auto Union "Silver Arrows" racers of the 1930s. The real concept was designed around a 6.0-liter W12, though the unit displayed at its debut was actually a non-functional wooden mockup since the engine was still under development; the original car is preserved today at Audi's museum mobile in Ingolstadt. The Hot Wheels casting entered the 1993 mainline, became a Treasure Hunt release in 1997, and ran through 2001.
