El Rey Special

El Rey Special, a Larry Wood design for the 1974 Flying Colors series, is known among collectors for its unusually deep well of color and tampo variations packed into a run of roughly a year and a half. It was reworked into the similar Formula P.A.C.K. casting around 1976 after a minor nose retool, and the same tooling later resurfaced under the names Malibu Grand Prix (1982) and Lightning Gold (1985) before being retooled again for a 2011-2013 run.
