GM Lean Machine

The GM Lean Machine casting, designed by Michael Kollins, replicates a real experimental single-occupant personal mobility vehicle designed by Frank Winchell in the 1980s as one of his final projects before retiring from GM. The full-size Lean Machine used a motorcycle-style chassis powered by a 185cc two-cylinder Honda engine through a Peerless tractor differential, mixing motorbike front tires with boat-trailer rear tires; only three were ever built, with one displayed for years at Epcot's World of Motion attraction, reportedly capable of nearly 200 mpg. The Hot Wheels casting features a removable canopy revealing a simplified cockpit, runs noticeably wider in proportion than the real vehicle, and appeared as a Treasure Hunt release in 1997 after debuting in 1993.
