GM Ultralite 1997 Hot Wheels (1997 Hot Wheels)
1997 #18363 Col 594

GM Ultralite

This casting is modeled on the real GM Ultralite, a carbon-fiber technology demonstrator penned by Burt Rutan and GM engineers in 1991 to showcase lightweight construction and fuel economy rated around 88 mpg; only two were built before GM shifted its low-emissions efforts toward the ill-fated EV1. Designer Michael Kollins turned it into a Hot Wheels casting for the 1993 Demolition Man movie tie-in line, referencing the Ultralite's most famous screen role as a futuristic 2032 police car, a part that used twenty purpose-built fiberglass replicas. Early production runs even carried a Warner Bros. copyright stamp on the base before it was changed to read simply "Ultralite."
