Mercedes C-Class 1997 Hot Wheels (1997 First Editions)
1997 #16669 Col 516

Mercedes C-Class

Designed by Dave Weise for the 1997 First Editions, this casting is patterned after the Mercedes-Benz W202-generation C-Class touring car that AMG prepared for the German Touring Car Championship (DTM) and the later International Touring Car Championship (ITC), following on from the earlier 190E "Baby Benz" racers. The Hot Wheels model is styled with the exaggerated aero package a homologated racer would carry, including a wing, side skirts, fender flares, front air dam, and brake-cooling intakes, with the front splitter angled steeply to help the car ride well on Hot Wheels track. Mercedes and AMG dominated the DTM/ITC scene through the mid-1990s behind drivers like Klaus Ludwig and Bernd Schneider, and this casting ran from 1997 to 2003.
