Porsche 917

Porsche 917, sculpted by Ira Gilford for the 1970 Grand Prix series, reproduces the earliest 1969 version of Porsche's Le Mans prototype racer, before engineers discovered the original tail design was generating dangerous aerodynamic lift at high speed and reworked it into the taller-tailed configuration that went on to dominate world sports car racing. The casting stayed in the catalog through 1979 and was later retooled for a 2011-2012 release; the same tooling was also reissued under the name P-917.
