Ranger Rig shared its casting with the Emergency Squad in the 1975 Flying Colors lineup, and both used the same chassis mold as the Rescue Ranger, Backwoods Bomb, Paramedic, Ramblin' Wrecker, and Super Van as part of Mattel's cost-cutting measures at the time. The body is generally understood to be modeled on the emergency truck from the popular contemporary TV series Emergency!.
