Red Baron
Red Baron, designed by Howard Rees and released in 1970, is a custom hot rod built around a Pickelhaube-style cockpit powered by a supercharged World War I aircraft engine; it began as a Monogram model kit before a full-size show car was built in 1969 and the Hot Wheels casting followed a year later with added fenders. A handful of 1970 examples turned up with a rare white interior instead of the standard black, among the more valuable variations documented for the line, and the casting became one of Hot Wheels' most recognizable designs, later appearing in Pixar's Toy Story and getting a retool that ran from 1993 to 2012.
