Second Wind

Second Wind has an unusual origin: Mattel originally tooled it as a prototype Mach 5 replica from Speed Racer in 1976, but when licensing talks with the show's copyright holders fell through, designer Larry Wood reworked the mold into the Second Wind for the 1977 Flying Colors line instead. Mattel would eventually secure the actual Speed Racer license decades later, but the reworked casting stuck around on its own, later reappearing in 2011's The Hot Ones and a 2024 SpongeBob SquarePants tie-in.
