Splittin' Image

Splittin' Image was one of four all-original designs Ira Gilford contributed to the 1969 Hot Wheels lineup, built around twin cockpits flanking a shared engine with dual exhaust pipes down the center. Production ran through 1971 in Spectraflame colors before the casting was reissued in 1973 as a Shell gas-station promotional giveaway with cost-cutting enamel paint and no interior. It returned properly in 1993 for the 25th Anniversary Series with replica redline wheels, and a more detailed version with opening canopies followed in 2002.
